My research interests include pavement engineering, highway materials, and surface characterization of flexible pavements in terms of polishing, friction, and texture measurements using experimental, numerical, statistical, artificial intelligence and deep learning and image processing techniques. Dr. Khasawneh is also interested in exploring physical, rheological and mechanical properties of modified asphalt cement and asphalt mixtures using different types of modifiers such as polymers, waste materials, microfibers, nanofibers, carbon nanotubes, nanosilica, etc. Besides, Dr. Khasawneh is interested in educational technology research and development. He is a recipient of the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Professors Training Course in Highway Materials Scholarship, American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) Teaching Fellow, Flexible Pavements of Ohio Graduate Asphalt Scholarship and Eisenhower Graduate Research Fellowship in Transportation Engineering.
