Dr. Hasim Altan is a British national, working as a Full Professor in the Department of Architecture at PMU, KSA. He received his B.Arch. degree from the Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1997, M.Arch. degree from the University of Sheffield, UK, in 1998, and his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, in 2004. Dr. Altan is a Chartered Architect (RIBA) and a Chartered Engineer (CIBSE) with over 20 years of both academic and practice experience in the fields of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) in the Built Environments in UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. Hence, he has many years of experience in teaching, research and curriculum development at graduate and undergraduate levels. His research interests include healthy buildings, sustainable design of the built environment, environmental design, building performance and simulation, and building information modelling, thermal comfort studies, daylighting analysis, and natural ventilation. Dr. Altan has more than 300 publications in refereed journals and international conference proceedings in addition to 27 book chapters and 13 books (edited/authored) published by Taylor & Francis, Springer, and others such as “Handbook of Retrofitting High Density Residential Buildings Building Retrofitting”, “Advances in Architecture, Engineering & Technology”, “Smart Techniques in Urban Planning & Technology”, “Transgressive Design Strategies for Utopian Cities”, “Innovating Strategies and Solutions for Urban Performance & Regeneration”, and “Energy Policy Design in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin”. Dr. Altan hopes to contribute to preparing an outstanding generation of Architects and Designers who will all help to shape the future of sustainable design in Saudi Arabia and the region.
