Michael Gismondi joins PMU as Assistant Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences. He has a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies (Literature and Cultural Studies) from the University of Illinois Chicago and an M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Oklahoma.

He has over twenty years of experience teaching English and Spanish in Thailand, Japan, Peru, and the United States. Through scaffolded, student-centered lessons, he helps students develop critical analysis, clear writing, and intercultural understanding.

He has published on Teresa de Ávila, Counter-Reformation spirituality, and the intersections of theology, selfhood, and gender in Early Modern Spain. His research examines concepts of selfhood in Early Modern literature, particularly the ways mystical theology shaped political and ethical thought in the West.

He is committed to PMU’s mission to prepare students to navigate an increasingly compressed and interwoven world with creativity, confidence, and cross-cultural competence.
