Dr. Basak Ozoral is an Associate Professor in the College of Science and Human Studies, specializing in Middle Eastern Studies. Her academic work focuses on the political economy and modernization processes of the Middle East, with particular attention to the Gulf region. She completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Ozoral held academic positions at universities in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey, where she taught courses related to world civilizations, social systems, communication, and critical thinking. Her research examines political economy, modernization, and social transformations in the Middle East, and she has published articles and presented papers at various international conferences.

More recently, her work has increasingly focused on the influence of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, on political and economic developments.

Ozoral’s work examines state-led modernization and socio-political transformations, with particular interest in governance, development, and political economy in the Gulf region. Currently, Ozoral is engaged in research examining the impact of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, on political and economic transformations in the Middle East, and is interested in advancing scholarship on technology-driven governance and development in the region.
