Dr. Alshammari is a former Research Fellow at OPEC and a former research scientist in energy economics at the University of Vienna, Austria. For more than five years, he has been a well-known analyst at the OPEC ministerial meetings where he presents his insight on the oil market to national and international media TV channels including Sky News, Le Fonti International, Saudi News, Russian News, CNTV News, and the OPEC Channel. Furthermore, he has been invited an expert speaker at many global energy events and global firms including the S&P Global Platts (London), European Energy Forum (Paris), BGS Solar Forum (Nice), and the World Energy Congress (Istanbul & Daegu). Dr. Alshammari is a member of the Group of Experts on Sustainable Energy at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Geneva). He obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London where worked on designing innovative processes for clean hydrogen generation from heavy oil fields. Following that, he joined the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to work on the techno-economic assessment of nuclear production of hydrogen for refining applications. He has also been a postdoctoral fellow at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a global graduate-level research institute built by Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia, and he was an Associate of Energy Studies at King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS). Throughout his bright career pathway, he has been a recipient of many international prizes including the World Energy Congress Prize (2016) for TOP20 research papers for his work on the impact of low oil prices on carbon capture and storage, and the UK Alumni Award for Professional Achievements (2017). Since 2012, He has also been a peer-reviewer at major international energy journals including the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy and Energy Policy, and he published a wide range of research papers both in energy technology and energy economics. In 2017, he was honoured as a Young Global Changer by the G20 Global Solution Summit in Berlin, Germany, and in 2018, he was honoured with a certificate of appreciation for his long-term leadership services as a board member of Future Energy Leaders by World Energy Council.
